Sue

Sue — GCHB CH Afterglow’s A Boy Named Sue NTD — is Lisa Inman Lee’s first Canadian Scottie Champion, and he earned the title at just twelve months old. A black Scottish Terrier, he lives in Springhill, Nova Scotia, with his owners Adrianna Daniels and Justin Daniels, and his owner-handler Adrianna. Sue’s CKC registration number is FD-ME4320136.

Adrianna owns a pet grooming salon, and for many years a black Scottie was on her salon’s sign — she knew one day she would own one. She and Justin came all the way to Ohio to bring Sue home, and he goes to the grooming shop with Adrianna every workday.

He is a boy named Sue, after the Johnny Cash song — “It’s tough being a boy named Sue,” as Adrianna put it. She also calls him “Suebird.”

Even as a young puppy Sue was, in Adrianna’s words, “full of sass and afraid of nothing.” He started conformation handling classes right away, and a retired judge who saw him was “in love with him,” calling him the nicest Scottie puppy he had come across in some time. He is smart, fits right in with the family’s rescue mutt, and even goes golfing with the family.

Sue’s first show was August 31, 2024. He was Best of Breed both days — he was the only Scottie entered — and Best Baby Puppy in Group both days, going on into the Best Baby Puppy in Show ring. Adrianna called him a “super star, with attitude.”

In April 2025, at the Cobequid Dog Club shows, Sue finished his Canadian Championship at twelve months old, going Best of Breed at all four shows and taking a Group 1st with his New Champion win. Lisa wrote after that weekend: “Sue had another great weekend, and is now Champion pending CKC approval! He is also #2 Scottie in Canada!” The judges told Adrianna he was the “nicest Scottie they have seen at Canadian shows in some time.”

Sue has been ranked among the top Scotties in Canada ever since — #2 in Canada in April 2025, #1 in Canada on May 24, 2026, after the Moncton shows, and #1 Owner-Handled Scottie. As of November 2026 he is ranked #2 Scottie in Canada (Canuck Dogs).

Sue earned his Canadian Grand Championship by July 2026, and his Grand Champion Bronze at the Abegweit Kennel Club on October 4, 2026 — a weekend of two Group 1sts, three Group 2nds and a Group 4th. His Grand Championship, Grand Champion Bronze and Novice Trick Dog titles (Novice Trick Dog earned July 2026; he is now working toward his Intermediate Trick Dog) are pending CKC confirmation.

His 2026 season also included a Group 1st and Group 4th at the Evangeline Kennel Club on June 29, 2026 — “showed his pants off!” Adrianna said — and a Group 3rd and Group 2nd at the Lady Slipper Kennel Club on June 22, 2026. On September 5, 2026, Charles showed Sue in Peewee Junior Handling at the Halifax Kennel Club. Sue also made his Sprinter debut on October 25, 2026, with three qualifying runs — very close to his Novice Sprinter title.

At home in Springhill, Sue shares the house with a younger Scottie housemate, Harry (Afterglow’s One More Fare), and the family’s rescue mutt. He goes to work with Adrianna every day — a black Scottie at last, just like the one on the salon sign.
